The Social Registry - Social Club 7" series

Stop the presses...I got this email last night and ordered it immeediately...this is what I have been saving my paypal balance for. A new seven inch series from the Social registry. They are so close I am tempted to talk to them someday about the label, see if they would be up for 7inches.blogspot stopping by. I mean... greenpoint ave? That's my hood.
Jena Malone and her bloodstains is the first one scheduled for release and I read this on poptartssucktoasted about her 'performance' at an animal collective show at bowery ballroom, which I happened to attend...although I did not witness said performance....but she is full of low-fi instruments and echoey vocals recorded through sludge songwriting and I'm sure I will love it based on these tracks.
So many great artists, Gang gang dance....I can only hope that blood on the wall is represented eventually, still one of my favorite bands....I'll let the email speak for itself:

We are more than elated to announce The Social Club, an initiative small in size and yet large in scope: an ongoing monthly 7-inch series. We realized this would allow us to help bring attention to new artists, while also providing the flexibility to embrace a much broader range of projects. Each release will be a limited pressing of 750 and comes in hand-numbered letter-pressed artwork. We are offering a six month long subscription service through our website, whereby you can guarantee the arrival of a brand new 7-inch every month at a reduced price. Much as we love the 7-inch, this is not merely a project of nostalgia or fetishized record collecting as each single will simultaneously be released for digital download through Insound?s new digital store.

There are a whole host of artists lined-up for The Social Club. Currently confirmed are Jena Malone and Her Bloodstains, Brian Degraw (of Gang Gang Dance), Total Life (Kevin Doria of Growing), Sian Alice Group, Douglas Armour, IUD (featuring Lizzie Bougatsos of Gang Gang Dance), Kid Kishore, Octis (Mick Barr of Orthrelm) and Messages (featuring Tres Warren of Psychic Ills). The series will be kicking off in May with Jena Malone and Her Bloodstains.

  2. I actually got to see her perform on stage a couple of weeks ago and the two words that came to my mind were "train" and "wreck". It was not good, not good at all. The recording had potential but I'm afraid the little girl from Stepmom has just lost her effing mind.

  3. Pat, wow I forgot stepmom, that's even crazier. I think when I go talk to social registry I'll have to ask them how that came about.
