M. Ward - To go home

This is another import where they've split up a CD EP across 2 7 inches. Or put the 7 inches on CD, who knows.
M. Ward has a really weird delicate voice, it's half dylan half tiny tim. I honestly picture tiny tim covering one of his songs on ukulele, or becoming a member of a backup band at one point.
These songs, all of his work, wavers between the familiar and otherworldly. A strange organ sound is fed through tinny speakers and those speakers are in a huge empty room. Just hearing some of these sounds instantly creates a story or a mood. It's fitting and almost essential to hear this on vinyl, to add another layer to what's already a dense narrative.

including M. Ward's first collaboration with guitarist Nels Cline on a cover of Jimmie Dale Gilmore's "Headed for a Fall" which features guest vocals by Jim James and Neko Case. Other special guests include: Howe Gelb, Tommy Larkins, and Chris Scruggs (Earl Scruggs' grandson)
