I don't know what the big deal is with Lady Sovereign, I saw a video on NY Noise, but it wasn't anything to write home about. Of course she's in a pool hall and there are speakers bouncing and big jackets. Is this a joke? There is no sense of irony, no history. It's a sincere parody of someone's life in 1988. My friend Tim keeps telling me how great she is, but she seems like a gimmick. Is there a huge english rap movement? This is like a sacha cohen side project. Ali G would love her. She has released this seven inch.
From turntable lab:
Two blog-fuelled meteorites collide on this 7" as Spank Rock reworks two tracks from Lady Sov's back catalog. "Ch-Ching" is arguably the song that ignited the lil gremlin's career and has already seen several remixes, but XXXchange's version(1) adds an alternate angle and ridiculous bounce to the original. "Hoodie" was not one of my favorite Sov tracks, but with XXXchange's redress and guest verse from Naeem(2), it vaults up there quickly. A no-brainer add to cart.
